Original photos
When the app accepts a photo for a check, GrowDoc saves the original photo on the GrowDoc computer (the host Mac) before analysis starts. The photo stays saved even if the check fails or you cancel after sending it. There is no automatic deletion schedule. Photos remain until the operator manually deletes them.
We keep the original bytes, including any embedded metadata. That can include GPS location, the time the photo was taken and camera details. Remove metadata before uploading if you do not want to share it. Avoid including people, addresses or other private details in your photo.
The saved collection is private: the web server does not serve these photos or their records. The operator of the GrowDoc computer (the host Mac) can access them. Each record includes a random photo ID, upload time, file size, format, dimensions, a file checksum and whether the check succeeded or failed. Invalid photos and requests rejected for reaching the daily limit are not saved.
Photo checks and daily limits
Your photo and optional question are sent to the GrowDoc computer (the host Mac) for analysis by the local model, not to another service for plant advice. This promotional page only shows prewritten examples and does not upload photos.
The public HTTPS app allows three free successful checks per source IP address per day, resetting at midnight UTC. The separate direct local-network app has no daily limit for the host Mac and private-network peers; that exemption never applies to the public app. People sharing a source IP share that allowance. Failed checks are not charged; canceling may not stop a check already underway.
The quota database stores a keyed hash of the source IP rather than the raw address, plus request IDs, dates and charge status. Access logs omit raw source IPs. Your browser displays the reset time in your local time.
Usage analytics
GrowDoc automatically sends limited visit and action counts to Mixpanel unless you previously declined tracking or your browser enables Global Privacy Control. We honor those opt-outs. Mixpanel's browser tracking also respects Do Not Track. You can stop these counts by enabling Global Privacy Control in a browser that supports it.
Your browser stores a random analytics label so repeat visits can be recognized. Events include which surface you used (app or promo), actions such as opening the app or starting a check, and broad failure categories. We do not send photos, photo metadata, filenames, questions, diagnosis results or referring pages to Mixpanel. We do not record your screen, automatically capture clicks or ask Mixpanel to look up your location. Like any service your browser connects to, Mixpanel can see the network address the connection comes from.
The pages also request fonts from Google Fonts. That service receives the network connection information needed to deliver them.
Before acting on advice
GrowDoc can be wrong. Review suggestions against your growing conditions before making changes, and follow local laws.
